About the theme

Manila is often experienced not as a single, unified whole, but as something fragmented, usually built through countless overlapping lives, systems, and everyday negotiations. Tagpi-Tagpi explores how Manila is formed through these fragments: the stories people carry, the systems they navigate, and the forces that shape everyday life. It's a shared, dynamic, and evolving story — the city is collectively molded by people who come from every part of the country, its cultures and everyone’s walks of life.

Manila becomes a patchwork of realities, woven by threads of longing and belonging, coming and becoming, and the making and remakings of a city in process. It asks what it means to live in a city that is always unfinished, and how survival itself becomes a form of construction.

This theme invites audiences to see Manila not as a complete or seamless whole, but as something collective and ongoing where meaning is created in the act of putting pieces together, and where the city exists because people continue to make it hold
